FAQ

Which hosting is cheapest?+

For a static site, Cloudflare: it doesn’t charge for bandwidth or static requests, so a 300k-view blog costs $0. For an app with server code at 2M page views a month, the cheapest here is Heroku ($7). Always-on servers (Heroku, Fly.io, DigitalOcean) get cheap at steady traffic but don’t scale to zero; serverless hosts cost nothing when idle and grow with traffic.

How much does Vercel cost?+

Pro is $20 per deploying seat a month, with $20 of usage credit and 1 TB / 1M CDN requests included. For a 3-person startup at 200k page views it comes to about $60; at 2M views with 8 seats about $265. Hobby is free but only for non-commercial projects.

Vercel vs Netlify: which is cheaper?+

It depends on team size and bandwidth. Vercel charges per seat but includes 1 TB of transfer; Netlify Pro has unlimited members but bills bandwidth from credits (20 credits per GB). At the startup preset: Vercel $60, Netlify $53.

How is this calculated?+

Page views × data per view gives bandwidth; × CDN requests per view gives requests; × server calls gives function invocations, and CPU and duration per call give compute. Each host’s published rates and included quotas (checked 2026-10-25) are applied to the cheapest self-serve plan that fits. For server-based hosts we size enough always-on instances for the CPU time at 50% utilization. Databases, storage, images and logs are not included.

What’s missing from the estimate?+

Databases, image optimization, file storage, logs, analytics, add-ons, taxes, free credits (most hosts give startups credits: see DevHunt’s perks list) and annual discounts. Caching also matters: a page served from CDN cache runs no function at all, so lowering "server calls per page view" is the biggest lever on serverless bills.
