FAQ
How much does Stripe charge per transaction?+
In the US, 2.9% + 30¢ per successful domestic card payment on standard pricing. A $100 payment costs $3.20 and you keep $96.80. International cards add 1.5%, currency conversion adds 1%, and manually entered cards add 0.5%. There are no setup or monthly fees.
How do I calculate the Stripe fee?+
Multiply the amount by 2.9% and add $0.30. For $50: 50 × 0.029 + 0.30 = $1.75. To find what to charge so you keep a set amount, divide the amount plus 30¢ by 0.971: to keep $50, charge (50 + 0.30) / 0.971 = $51.80.
Does Stripe refund its fee when I refund a payment?+
No. On standard pricing Stripe doesn’t charge for issuing a card refund, but the processing fee and any currency conversion fee from the original payment aren’t returned. Refunds of some bank transfer methods have their own fee.
How much is the Stripe dispute fee?+
$15.00 for each dispute (chargeback) you receive, and another $15.00 if you counter it manually. The counter fee is returned if you win.
What does Stripe charge for ACH?+
ACH Direct Debit costs 0.8% with a $5.00 cap, so any payment over $625 costs exactly $5. That makes ACH far cheaper than cards for large invoices: a $2,000 invoice costs $5.00 by ACH and $58.30 by card.
Can I pass the Stripe fee on to customers?+
You can raise your price so the fee is covered (the “charge this” number above). Adding a separate surcharge for paying by card is regulated: it’s banned in some US states and capped elsewhere, and card networks have their own rules. Check the rules where you sell before adding one.
Is this calculator exact?+
It uses Stripe’s standard US list prices from stripe.com/pricing, checked 2026-10-29, and rounds each fee to the cent. Accounts on custom pricing (IC+ or volume discounts), other countries and Connect platforms pay different rates, and tax on Stripe’s fees is not included.
