FAQ
How many Y Combinator companies build developer tools?+
759 of the 6,311 launched YC companies in YC's public directory carry a developer-tools or infrastructure tag (snapshot of 2026-10-20). 541 of them are still active, and 19% are tagged open source.
What do YC batch codes like W26, X26, S26 and F26 mean?+
The letter is the season and the number the year: W is Winter, X is Spring, S is Summer and F is Fall. YC has run four batches a year since 2025, so X25 is Spring 2025 and F25 is Fall 2025.
Which companies count as developer tools here?+
Companies YC itself tagged Developer Tools, DevOps, DevSecOps, Databases, Kubernetes, Infrastructure, API, APIs and similar, plus open-source companies YC files under engineering or infrastructure. We use YC's tags as they are, so a few edge cases (an API-first fintech, say) are in and some AI products for engineers without those tags are out.
Where does the data come from?+
From YC's public company directory, via the community mirror yc-oss/api, refreshed weekly. It only includes companies that have launched publicly on YC's site, so the newest batches look smaller than they are until more companies launch. Each entry links to its YC page; we keep only the facts (name, batch, status, one-liner, team size, tags).
How do I get my YC company listed on DevHunt?+
Add it at devhunt.org/account/tools/new. A listing is free, a launch is $19 and a boosted launch $49. Once your tool is on DevHunt, it gets an "On DevHunt" badge here at the next refresh (matched by website domain).
