Nice — flow-as-data is the right call for this. Two things I'd want to know before reaching for it: does it serialize the diagram to a portable JSON you own (vs a proprietary blob), and does the runtime support checkpoint/resume for long-running or async steps, or is execution assumed synchronous? Branching + resumability are usually where these designers break down.
A framework-agnostic, TypeScript-first visual workflow designer, editor, and execution engine for web apps.
- for
- Web developers building custom no-code or workflow automation tools.
- pricing
- open source
- license
- MIT
Key features
- Visual workflow canvas — Drag-and-drop interface for creating sequential steps on an SVG-based canvas.
- Customizable step types — Define and style step UI and behavior to match any product.
- JSON workflow definitions — Workflows are stored as JSON, enabling easy sharing and persistence.
- Automatic editor generation — Declarative schemas generate configuration UI and validation logic.
- Pluggable step handlers — Implement custom code for each step to integrate APIs or business logic.
- Frontend & backend execution — The workflow machine can run in browsers or server environments.
- Framework-agnostic — Works with any JavaScript framework or plain TypeScript projects.
- Modular architecture — Designer, Editor, and Machine can be used independently or together.
Use cases
- Build automation platforms that connect APIs and internal systems.
- Create AI workflow editors for prompt orchestration and post-processing.
- Develop internal tools for ops, support, or product teams.
- Enable end users to design no-code workflows without writing code.

- Sequential Workflow Designer vs Rete.js: Rete.js provides node-based visual programming but focuses on graph editing, not sequential step execution.
- Sequential Workflow Designer vs Craftar: Craftar offers visual automation building with its own runtime, whereas NoCode JS separates design, config, and execution.
- Sequential Workflow Designer vs BuildShip: BuildShip is an AI-powered backend builder with drag-drop UI, while NoCode JS is a generic, framework-agnostic workflow toolkit.
- Sequential Workflow Designer vs toddle: toddle accelerates web-app development but does not provide a dedicated workflow engine like NoCode JS.
