For developers who need a fast, native database client, Rustable has a demo that runs in the browser via compiled Rust‑to‑WASM and also offers native desktop builds for macOS, Windows and Linux. It lets you browse, query, edit, import and export SQLite, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB and Redis, with SSH tunnels and saved queries. I'd love to hear what works well and what could be improved 🙂

Rustable is an open-source, native database client. Written in Rust. Built as an alternative to TablePlus, it's extremely fast and lightweight yet functional for every day use.

Key features

6 features of Rustable
  • Multi-DB support — Connect to PostgreSQL, SQLite, MySQL, MariaDB and Redis from one workspace.
  • SSH tunnels — Built-in SSH tunneling for secure remote connections (macOS/Linux).
  • GPU UI — egui-powered UI renders at monitor refresh rate for smooth scrolling and resizing.
  • Virtualized rows — Rows are virtualized and work is off the UI thread for reduced latency.
  • Saved queries — Create, edit and review queries before committing changes.
  • Cross-platform binaries — Native executables for macOS (Apple Silicon), Windows x64 and Linux x64.

Use cases

  • Browse, edit tables and run queries in an SQL database.
  • Inspect Redis keys and TTLs using the built-in Redis demo.
  • Develop against multiple databases simultaneously with separate windows.

  • Rustable vs Convex: Convex provides a reactive backend database for TypeScript apps, not a desktop client.
  • Rustable vs Neon: Neon offers a managed serverless Postgres service, whereas Rustable is a local client.
  • Rustable vs Turso: Turso supplies edge-deployed SQLite databases, while Rustable is a desktop UI for local/remote DBs.
  • Rustable vs Upstash: Upstash is a serverless Redis API, not a native client like Rustable.
