Thanks for taking a look at Octomind! The runnable example shows a real agent fixing a nested-range bug: two tests fail before the fix, then all seven pass without changing the tests. You can reproduce it here: https://github.com/Muvon/octomind/tree/master/examples/fix-a-bug The runtime is Apache-2.0, with configurable model providers and MCP tools. Model usage is separate from the free runtime. Feedback on the terminal workflow and setup would be very helpful.

Octomind is an Apache-2.0 AI coding agent and runtime written in Rust. It reads and edits repository files, runs shell commands, and uses MCP tools.

Run the agent interactively in your terminal, from piped input, or as a daemon. Configure model providers and tool policies in TOML.

Watch and reproduce a real bug fix: two failing tests become seven passing tests, with the test file unchanged. The example includes a colour recording and a deliberately buggy Python teaching fixture.

The open-source runtime is free. Model-provider usage and optional hosted services are separate.

Key features

6 features of Octomind CLI
  • Multi-model support — Swap any model (OpenRouter, Anthropic, OpenAI, etc.) mid-session without losing context.
  • Deterministic guardrails — Policy defined in TOML enforces pre-call checks and post-result validation without pop-ups.
  • On-demand tool loading — Only activates needed tools (six in context) using embedding-based relevance scoring.
  • Adaptive compression & caching — Compresses session data, caches decisions and drops noise to reduce token costs.
  • Hard spending caps — Enforces per-request and per-session cost limits to prevent surprise bills.
  • Multiple execution modes — Run interactively, via piped JSONL, as a daemon, WebSocket server or as a sub-agent.

Use cases

  • Fix failing tests automatically in CI pipelines
  • Generate code snippets or documentation from natural language prompts
  • Run long-running background agents that persist across days
  • Integrate AI coding assistance into IDEs via WebSocket server
  • Chain specialist agents into workflows for content creation or code review
