Hey everyone 👋 I'm Jerome, I built LassoCut on my own. It started as a simple idea: remove.bg closes its self-service API on 1 December, and a lot of code was written for it. So LassoCut speaks the same API (same path, fields, X-Api-Key header and error codes): swap the base URL and the key, done. For devs, the fun parts: • npx lassocut-cli photos/ → a whole folder in one command • pip install lassocut • npx -y lassocut-mcp → let Claude or Cursor cut out images for you You can try it right on the home page, no account needed. I'd love to hear where it breaks: hair, glass, fur, weird logos... 🙂

LassoCut is a background removal API for developers. It is compatible with the remove.bg API: same path, form fields, X-Api-Key header and error codes, so existing code only needs a new base URL and key. Ways to call it: • REST API • CLI: npx lassocut-cli (a whole folder in one command) • Python: pip install lassocut • MCP connector for AI assistants: npx -y lassocut-mcp • Verified n8n node; Zapier in beta, Make in review There are also plugins for Photoshop, Figma, GIMP 3, WordPress/WooCommerce and a Shopify app. Free: 3 tries a day without an account, 50 previews a month with a Google/GitHub sign-in. Paid: credit packs from $9 for 100, no subscription, credits never expire. I built it on my own; feedback on edge cases is very welcome.

  • LassoCut vs Cloudinary: Cloudinary offers a broader media CDN and transformation suite, not a dedicated background-removal API.
  • LassoCut vs Postman: Postman is an API testing client, while LassoCut is a production background-removal service.
  • LassoCut vs n8n: n8n provides workflow automation; LassoCut provides the actual background-removal processing.
  • LassoCut vs Zapier: Zapier connects many apps but does not perform background removal itself; LassoCut does the removal and offers a Zapier node.
