What to do if Cloudflare is down

  • Cloudflare lists hundreds of data centers; an incident in one city may not affect your users at all.
  • If the proxy itself is down and your origin can take the traffic, switching DNS records to "DNS only" sends visitors straight to your server (you lose caching and protection while it’s off).
  • Check which component and region is affected: builds and the dashboard often fail while live traffic keeps serving.
  • Hold off on deploys and config changes until the incident is resolved; a failed deploy mid-incident is harder to roll back.
  • Use the provider’s CLI or API if only the dashboard is down.
  • Tell your users early: a status banner or a post saves you a pile of support tickets.
