speak or sponsor

Conferences are one of the few places where developers sit still and listen. Two ways in: submit a talk to an open call for papers (a practical talk about the problem your tool solves, not a pitch, gets accepted far more often), or sponsor a booth or a community event; smaller conferences sell sponsorships for a few hundred to a few thousand dollars, so email the organizers. Then give the audience somewhere to go after the talk.

FAQ

What is a call for papers (CFP)?+

The open submission period in which a conference accepts talk proposals. You send a title, an abstract and a short bio before the deadline; the program committee picks the talks. Most tech conferences cover the travel or ticket of accepted speakers, and many state it on the CFP page.

Which tech conference CFPs close soon?+

Voxxed Days Zürich (Oct 23), PyCascades (Oct 26), Apidays Australia (Oct 27), Axe-con (Oct 30). 3 close within 7 days.

How do I get a conference talk accepted?+

Pick one concrete problem and what the audience will be able to do after your talk. Write a specific title, an abstract that promises a takeaway, and say why you are the one to give it. Talks that pitch a product are usually rejected; a talk about the problem your tool solves, with real numbers, is not.
