Is there an official SQL Server MCP server?+
Yes: MCP Toolbox for Databases, SQL MCP Server (Data API builder) and Cloud SQL, maintained by Google. There is also 1 community server: DBHub.
How do I connect SQL Server to Claude?+
In Claude Code, run the claude mcp add command shown above. In Claude Desktop, add the server to claude_desktop_config.json (Settings > Developer > Edit Config) and restart the app.
How do I use the SQL Server MCP server in Cursor or VS Code?+

Is it safe to give an AI agent access to SQL Server?+
Start with the official server, a read-only or test account and approval prompts on for anything that writes. Content the agent reads from SQL Server (tickets, messages, pages) can carry prompt-injection instructions, so don't auto-approve actions.
