MCP server
PostgreSQL MCP server
One server for Postgres, MySQL, SQL Server, BigQuery, AlloyDB, Spanner and more, with tools you define in YAML.
★ 17kpushed 2026-10-23Apache-2.0
No one-line setup: it needs a build step, an app plugin or account details. Follow the README.
Query Postgres, manage tables, migrations, edge functions and branches in your Supabase projects.

Which one to pick
- Start with MCP Toolbox for Databases: it's maintained by Google and follows its API.
- A remote server (Supabase, Postgres AI guide, Neon, AlloyDB, Cloud SQL and Prisma) needs no install and signs you in with OAuth. It's also the only kind ChatGPT and claude.ai can use.
- A local server (Supabase, Postgres AI guide and DBHub) runs on your machine with an API key or token, and works offline from the vendor's hosting.
FAQ
Is there an official PostgreSQL MCP server?+
Yes: MCP Toolbox for Databases, Supabase, Postgres AI guide, Neon, AlloyDB, Cloud SQL and Prisma, maintained by Google. There are also 2 community servers: DBHub and Postgres MCP Pro.
How do I connect PostgreSQL to Claude?+
In Claude Code, run the claude mcp add command shown above. In Claude Desktop, add the server to claude_desktop_config.json (Settings > Developer > Edit Config) and restart the app.
How do I use the PostgreSQL MCP server in Cursor or VS Code?+
Open the Cursor or VS Code tab on the server above: it has the exact mcp.json entry. The same server also works in Claude Code, Claude Desktop / claude.ai, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and Codex.
Can I use the PostgreSQL MCP server in ChatGPT?+
ChatGPT connects to remote MCP servers only. Supabase, Postgres AI guide, Neon, AlloyDB, Cloud SQL and Prisma have a hosted URL: at chatgpt.com/plugins choose + > Add custom MCP server, paste the URL and create it as a plugin.
Is it safe to give an AI agent access to PostgreSQL?+
Start with the official server, a read-only or test account and approval prompts on for anything that writes. Content the agent reads from PostgreSQL (tickets, messages, pages) can carry prompt-injection instructions, so don't auto-approve actions.
