MCP server
Neo4j MCP server
One server for Postgres, MySQL, SQL Server, BigQuery, AlloyDB, Spanner and more, with tools you define in YAML.
★ 17kpushed 2026-10-23Apache-2.0
No one-line setup: it needs a build step, an app plugin or account details. Follow the README.
Run Cypher queries, model graph data and store agent memory in Neo4j.
★ 989pushed 2026-09-09MIT
Needs NEO4J_URI, NEO4J_USERNAME, NEO4J_PASSWORD (replace the ... with your value).
Run in a terminal. Everything after -- is the command that starts the server. docs
claude mcp add --transport stdio --env NEO4J_URI=... --env NEO4J_USERNAME=... --env NEO4J_PASSWORD=... neo4j -- uvx mcp-neo4j-cypher
Claude Desktop only: Settings > Developer > Edit Config opens claude_desktop_config.json. Add this, save and restart the app. docs

- Start with MCP Toolbox for Databases: it's maintained by Google and follows its API.
- A local server (Neo4j) runs on your machine with an API key or token, and works offline from the vendor's hosting.
FAQ
Is there an official Neo4j MCP server?+
Yes: MCP Toolbox for Databases and Neo4j, maintained by Google.
How do I connect Neo4j to Claude?+
In Claude Code, run the claude mcp add command shown above. In Claude Desktop, add the server to claude_desktop_config.json (Settings > Developer > Edit Config) and restart the app.
How do I use the Neo4j MCP server in Cursor or VS Code?+
Open the Cursor or VS Code tab on the server above: it has the exact mcp.json entry. The same server also works in Claude Code, Claude Desktop / claude.ai, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and Codex.
Is it safe to give an AI agent access to Neo4j?+
Start with the official server, a read-only or test account and approval prompts on for anything that writes. Content the agent reads from Neo4j (tickets, messages, pages) can carry prompt-injection instructions, so don't auto-approve actions.
