★ 17kpushed 2026-10-23Apache-2.0
No one-line setup: it needs a build step, an app plugin or account details. Follow the README.
Google-hosted server to manage Cloud SQL for MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQL Server instances.

Run in a terminal, then /mcp inside Claude Code to sign in. Add --scope project to share it via .mcp.json. docs
claude mcp add --transport http cloud-sql https://sqladmin.googleapis.com/mcp
Customize > Connectors > Add > Add custom connector, paste this URL and sign in. It syncs to Claude Desktop and mobile. docs
https://sqladmin.googleapis.com/mcp
The free plan allows one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise an owner adds it under Organization settings > Connectors.

}Which one to pick
- Start with MCP Toolbox for Databases: it's maintained by Google and follows its API.
- A remote server (Cloud SQL) needs no install and signs you in with OAuth. It's also the only kind ChatGPT and claude.ai can use.
- A local server (DBHub and MySQL) runs on your machine with an API key or token, and works offline from the vendor's hosting.
FAQ
Is there an official MySQL MCP server?+
Yes: MCP Toolbox for Databases and Cloud SQL, maintained by Google. There are also 2 community servers: DBHub and MySQL.
How do I connect MySQL to Claude?+
In Claude Code, run the claude mcp add command shown above. In Claude Desktop, add the server to claude_desktop_config.json (Settings > Developer > Edit Config) and restart the app.
How do I use the MySQL MCP server in Cursor or VS Code?+
Open the Cursor or VS Code tab on the server above: it has the exact mcp.json entry. The same server also works in Claude Code, Claude Desktop / claude.ai, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and Codex.
Can I use the MySQL MCP server in ChatGPT?+
ChatGPT connects to remote MCP servers only. Cloud SQL has a hosted URL: at chatgpt.com/plugins choose + > Add custom MCP server, paste the URL and create it as a plugin.
Is it safe to give an AI agent access to MySQL?+
Start with the official server, a read-only or test account and approval prompts on for anything that writes. Content the agent reads from MySQL (tickets, messages, pages) can carry prompt-injection instructions, so don't auto-approve actions.
