The URL also takes X-Browser-Use-API-Key as a header (see its docs), for clients or setups without OAuth sign-in.
Run in a terminal, then /mcp inside Claude Code to sign in. Add --scope project to share it via .mcp.json. docs

}Which one to pick
- Start with Browser Use: it's maintained by Browser Use and follows its API.
- A remote server (Browser Use) needs no install and signs you in with OAuth. It's also the only kind ChatGPT and claude.ai can use.
- A local server (Browser Use and Chrome DevTools) runs on your machine with an API key or token, and works offline from the vendor's hosting.
FAQ
Is there an official Chrome MCP server?+
Yes: Browser Use and Chrome DevTools, maintained by Browser Use.
How do I connect Chrome to Claude?+
In Claude Code run: claude mcp add --transport http browser-use https://api.browser-use.com/v3/mcp, then /mcp to sign in. In Claude Desktop or claude.ai, go to Customize > Connectors > Add > Add custom connector and paste https://api.browser-use.com/v3/mcp.
How do I use the Chrome MCP server in Cursor or VS Code?+
Open the Cursor or VS Code tab on the server above: it has the exact mcp.json entry and a one-click install link. The same server also works in Claude Code, Claude Desktop / claude.ai, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code and Codex.
Can I use the Chrome MCP server in ChatGPT?+
ChatGPT connects to remote MCP servers only. Browser Use has a hosted URL: at chatgpt.com/plugins choose + > Add custom MCP server, paste the URL and create it as a plugin.
Is it safe to give an AI agent access to Chrome?+
Start with the official server, a read-only or test account and approval prompts on for anything that writes. Content the agent reads from Chrome (tickets, messages, pages) can carry prompt-injection instructions, so don't auto-approve actions.
