CSV viewer

Drop a CSV or TSV file below to open it as a table. Sort by any column, search the rows, click a header for column stats or a row to read it in full, and export what you filtered. The file stays on your computer.

What you can do with a CSV here

TaskHow
Open a fileDrag it onto the drop zone or click to pick it. Paste text or spreadsheet cells with Paste CSV.
SortClick a column header: ascending, descending, then file order. Empty cells always sort last.
SearchType in the search box; choose one column in the "in" menu to narrow it.
Column statsClick a header. Type, filled and empty cells, unique values, top values, min, max, sum, mean, median.
Read a long rowClick it. Every field is listed in full, line breaks included, with a copy-as-JSON button.
ExportExport .csv (UTF-8 with BOM, for Excel) or .json of the rows you see, in the order you see them.
No header rowTurn off Header row; columns are named column_1, column_2 and so on.

Opening large CSV files

Spreadsheet apps load every cell into a grid, which gets slow on big exports, and Excel stops at 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns per sheet. This viewer works differently:

  • Files over 1 MB are parsed by Papa Parse in a Web Worker, a background thread, so scrolling and typing stay smooth while it reads.
  • The table is virtualized: it only draws the few dozen rows on screen, so a 500,000-row file scrolls like a 50-row one.
  • Sorting, search and stats run on the parsed rows in memory. The limit is your device memory, not a row count.

If you only need part of a huge file, search for it here and export the matching rows to a smaller CSV.

How column types are detected

TypeEvery non-empty cell looks likeStats shown
Numbers42, -3.5, 1e6Min, max, sum, mean, median
Dates2026-10-29, 2026-10-29T09:14:00ZEarliest and latest
Yes/notrue, false, yes, noCounts of each value
Textanything elseFirst and last A to Z, length range

A single cell that does not fit makes the whole column text, so a stray N/A in a price column is easy to spot: the column shows as text and N/A appears in its most common values. Numbers with thousands separators, like 1,000, count as text.

View a CSV on the command line

On a server without a browser, these print a readable table. column splits on every comma, even inside quotes, so prefer csvkit or Miller for real data:

# Line up the columns and scroll sideways (breaks on quoted commas)
column -s, -t < orders.csv | less -S

# csvkit: a proper parser, prints a readable table
csvlook orders.csv | less -S

# Miller: pretty-print, or sort by a column first
mlr --icsv --opprint cat orders.csv
mlr --icsv --opprint sort -nr total orders.csv

In Python, pandas gives the same overview as the stats panel:

import pandas as pd

df = pd.read_csv("orders.csv")
print(df.shape) # (rows, columns)
print(df.describe()) # count, mean, min, max per numeric column
print(df.head(20))

FAQ

How do I open a CSV file without Excel?+

Drop the file on this page. It opens as a table in your browser, with sorting, search and per-column stats, and works the same on Windows, macOS, Linux and Chromebooks. Other options: Google Sheets (File, Import), LibreOffice Calc, Numbers on a Mac, or any text editor if you only need to read the raw text.

Is my CSV file uploaded to a server?+

No. The file is read with the browser File API and parsed by JavaScript on your device. Nothing leaves your computer, which makes this safe for customer exports, logs and other private data.

How large a CSV file can I open?+

There is no fixed limit; the practical limit is your device memory. Only the rows on screen are drawn, and files above 1 MB are parsed in a background Web Worker so the page stays responsive. Files with hundreds of thousands of rows are fine on a typical laptop. Excel, by comparison, stops at 1,048,576 rows per sheet.

Can I sort and filter the CSV?+

Click a column header to sort ascending, again for descending, and a third time to go back to file order. Numbers sort by value and text sorts naturally, so file2 comes before file10. Type in the search box to keep only matching rows, in all columns or one. Export the filtered, sorted rows as CSV or JSON.

Why does my CSV show up in a single column?+

The file probably uses a different delimiter than expected. The viewer detects comma, semicolon, tab and pipe automatically, but you can set it by hand in the Delimiter menu. Semicolon-separated files are common from Excel in European locales.

Can I view TSV files too?+

Yes. Tab-separated files (.tsv), and cells copied from a spreadsheet and pasted with the Paste CSV button, are detected as tab-delimited and shown the same way.

What do the column stats show?+

Click a header to see the column type (numbers, dates, yes/no or text), how many cells are filled and empty, the number of unique values, the five most common values, and for numbers the min, max, sum, mean and median. For dates it shows the earliest and latest.
